| The Riders left the Fairgrounds in Pahrump at about 9:00 AM headed for the Longstreet Inn in Amargosa Valley 34 miles away. |

| Near Crystal Reservoir in Ash Meadows, was the start of the 4th and final leg. |

The heat slowed the riders pace and by midafternoon they were well behind schedule. Lookouts perched atop a trailer scanned the horizon for any signs of the riders. |
